Lummi Island Boatworks - Jyl Peterson

Lummi Island Boat works founder Jyl Peterson grew up rowing in the waters around the San Juan Islands.  Almost every day was spent with a picnic lunch and an adventure of exploring coves, tide pools, and the moods of the changing waters.

The family skiff was a light weight pram that was easily hauled in and out of the water by her and her siblings.  The parents trusted the stability of the skiff as they watched the children scramble around changing seats, fidgeting to gather passing sea weed, or making unsuccessful attempts at swamping the dingy.

That skiff was named Little Pete.  Since then, no other skiff or design has been found to match Little Pete’s lightness, surety, and ease of rowing.  Then finally a pattern was made from the landed, and much loved little pram.  Lummi Island Boat Works is now the home of the resurrected Little Pete pram, where more just like it, are manufactured by hand.

Jyl, These little dingys are so sweet! My sister and I had one this size all our kid years. Not as sweet and fancy as yours, but a similar size we could handle as little girls. We spent DAYS rowing around Tulalip Shores and Camano Island. Very good memory’s from those days. I need one Now!!!

Thanks, Janet. Love that part of my childhood, the freedom of simply rowing. It’s quiet and exercising. One becomes very present with the water’s life. You understand!
Come on over for a row.

    Hi Jyl,
Thanks so much for letting me seatrial your Little Pete pram. The pram was a delight to row and maneuver compared to other little skiffs of similar size. The light weight was a bonus making it very easy to carry. Also a plus was that it handled very well with the small 2hp motor.
    Chuck
